Summer is a special time of year—the weather is warmer, the days are longer and fun is in the air!
Here are our top 4 ideas for staying active and healthy in the coming months…
1. Have a picnic: Check out a new park—or head to your favorite—to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Pack a large blanket, a good book and some games or toys. Need a refresher on how to keep the food and other feeding tube supplies in your picnic basket cool when it’s hot out? Check out this post.
2. Enjoy the pool, beach, lake or river: If you have a feeding tube, swimming may not be a good choice for you. That said, don’t shy away from having fun in the sun near your favorite body of water. You can read a book, do some fishing, perfect your sand castle, catch some rays or simply enjoy the scenery—just don’t forget your sunscreen! If you do want to swim, be sure to discuss with your physician first. You can also check out some concerns on swimming from The Oley Foundation here.
3. Stay hydrated: While drinking water is important year-round, it’s essential in the summer months when the temps are higher and you’re likely to spend more time outside working up a sweat. Read our top tips for hydration here.
4. Take a trip: Don’t let the idea of traveling with a feeding tube prevent you from exploring. From local day trips to cross-country vacations, we have all your tube travel tips here.
