We get many unique questions on our Tubefed Facebook Page every day. From time-to-time, we feature real questions asked by some of you and share the answers to help us all learn from each other.
This month, we’re featuring a question about using expired feeding tubes from Michelle S.
Question: Can you use an expired MIC-KEY* Button? If the expiration date is 10/2022, would we still be able to use this?
Answer: Unfortunately, no. You should never use an expired MIC-KEY* Feeding Tube. When the shelf-life of a product comes to a close, this means we (Avanos) can no longer guarantee that the product is safe and effective to use.
So, what can you do with expired product? Instead of tossing it out or letting it collect dust in your supply cabinet, consider donating it to a group that makes stuffed medical companions, like Tubie Friends, or making your own MIC-KEY* doll. You can also use it to decorate around the holidays. For example, we have seen people add them to their jack-o-lanterns at Halloween!
