Meet the Clinical Education Team

Janel Ganz, BSN, RN

Janel graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with her bachelor’s of science in nursing. She comes with 25 years of pediatric experience at Children’s Wisconsin. She was a float nurse for nearly fifteen years and developed a strong background in many clinical areas. Throughout her career at Children’s Wisconsin, she helped develop the Enteral Feeding Program providing expertise and individualized care of children with feeding tubes. She is passionate about educating on feeding tube care. Janel knows that building strong relationships with the families is essential, and she is happy when seeing patients adapt to their feeding tube and thrive. Coordinating care is important to help better prepare patients for when they go home. She joined Avanos as a Clinical Educational Specialist in January of 2024. 

Janel has been involved in several quality improvement projects throughout her career and has presented at various conferences throughout the U.S.

Janel was born and raised in Wisconsin. She is married, has two children and two stepchildren. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, such as hiking, Ice Age Trails, kayaking, and biking. Her favorite season is autumn when she bakes often and enjoys campfires in the evening. 

Laura Cancel, RD, LD, CN

Laura Cancel is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Nutritionist based in Phoenix, Arizona. With over 20 years of experience in the medical field — including 10 years as a dietitian — Laura brings deep knowledge and a caring touch to everything she does.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Hospitality, and Management from Western Kentucky University, with a focus in Nutrition and Dietetics. Laura spent 8 years as a critical care dietitian, where she specialized in nutrition support, wrote enteral and parenteral nutrition orders, and placed small bore feeding tubes in the hospital setting. She was also the driving force behind launching the CORTRAK* program for safe feeding tube placement at her former hospital in Kentucky.

Laura is passionate about helping patients get the right nutrition to heal and recover. She’s worked closely with families to create personalized nutrition plans and has served on several hospital committees focused on improving care and processes.

In January 2024, Laura joined Avanos as a Clinical Education Specialist. She now helps educate healthcare professionals and consumers on safe and effective nutrition practices, always with a focus on making things better for patients. Outside of work, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and two soccer-loving kids. Her weekends are filled with games, good food, live music, and cheering on her favorite football team.

Shana Vold, RD, LD, CNSC

Shana is a registered dietitian graduating from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota in 2007 with over 15 years of clinical experience. She has been a certified Nutrition Support Clinician for the last 5 years and previously she was certified in Oncology Nutrition from 2010 to 2020. She has worked in multiple adult care areas including Oncology, Inpatient Rehab, and the Intensive Care Unit before joining Avanos in January 2024 as a Clinical Education Specialist.

Shana is enthusiastic about early nutrition interventions to support the care of patients which includes IV feeding, tube feeding and placing feeding tubes. Shana has developed education material for patients going home from the hospital with nutrition support and has spoken at an employer sponsored conference to educate care team staff on nutrition in adult oncology care. While working at the hospital, Shana strived to help ease the transition from hospital to home when educating patients and care givers.  

Shana was raised in western Minnesota and now lives in Denver, Colorado. She has enjoyed getting to know her new city and visiting the mountains, recently hiking Saint Mary’s Glacier. She enjoys returning to Minnesota when she has time off to see friends and family.

Laura Urias, MCN, RD, CSO, LD

Laura is a Registered Dietitian with a master’s degree in clinical nutrition and is board certified in oncology nutrition. She brings extensive experience supporting families with formula management and at home tube care across both adult and pediatric patient populations. Laura joined Avanos in May 2025 and is based in Dallas, Texas. As a Clinical Education Specialist, she is dedicated to empowering caregivers and clinicians with practical, compassionate education and support.
