🐶 Ava’s Holiday Tips for Caregivers

Medically Reviewed by Shana Vold, RD, LD, CNSC, Enteral Feeding Specialist

Hi friends! It’s me, Ava! I see how hard you work every day to take care of your awesome kiddo with a feeding tube. You give so much love, time, and energy. When the holidays come, things can feel even harder. That is why I want to help you stay happy and healthy this season!

🐾 What Burnout Looks Like1

Burnout means your body and brain are super tired.  Watch out for these signs:

  • Feeling tired all the time (like you have lost your wag)
  • Everyday things feel too hard
  • Trouble focusing or making choices
  • You do not enjoy things you usually love
  • Headaches, bad sleep, or just feeling blah

If these sound familiar, it is time to take a break and rest

Ava’s Holiday Care Tips

1. Save Your Energy
Holidays do not have to be perfect. Pick the fun things your child loves and skip the rest. Smaller parties or video calls can be just as special.

2. Ask for Help
You do not have to do everything alone! Ask family or friends to help with wrapping gifts, shopping, or decorating. That way, you can spend more time with your kiddo (and me-time).

3. Take Breaks
Even short breaks help. Stretch, breathe, listen to music, or snuggle with your child. (I love naps—highly recommend!)

4. Talk to Someone
If you feel really stressed, talk with a doctor, counselor, or other tube-feeding families. You are not alone!

Remember: Holidays do not need to be perfect to be meaningful. Taking care of yourself helps you take care of your child. That is the best gift of all!

Tail wags,
Ava 🐾
